[#2630839]

I am doing it in the right direction... I think!

Drive side, got an eggbeater totally stuck in an FSA SLK carbon roadcrank.

Upgrading to proper road shoes and pedals but cant get it off.Arrrgh

Undoing anti clockwise. Bike upside down and turning towards front wheel.

So far a snapped spanner and snapped allen key!!!!

Got some oil I'm trying to soak in at the moment.

The nut is rounding off and scared the allen key is going to go the same way. Any tips?

MM

The threaded bit for the pedal is metal. LBS not open right now 😉

"Undoing anti clockwise. Bike upside down and turning towards front wheel."

Eh?

Long spanner. Like this, and push down.

Had exactly the same problem last week. Eggies wind off towards the back wheel when the bike is upright ie they have different threads for left and right.

I too started to round off the Allen key interface and basically admitted defeat and left the pedals on. Have got some nicely bruised knuckles for my attempts however.

Good luck. If all else fails smash the **** out of it with a hammer, it won't help but you'll feel better trust me.

Good luck! My tip is to have the chain on the big ring. Won't help undo the pedal but doesn't half save your knuckles 😯

RH pedal, RH thread, yeah?

So undo it anti-clockwise if you're using a spanner and facing the crank from the outside, or clockwise if you're using an allen key and facing the crank from the inside.

Just to be totally sure you're doing it the right way... 😉

If it does go tits, you can clamp the pedal in a vice and unscrew the crank, or file spanner-flats into the axle and use a good ol' AJ.

Well at least I was doing it the right way!

I've admitted defeat and put the other pedal back on. Will be riding past an Evans tomorrow so hopefully can borrow a spanner to loosen it off so I can try again tomorrow night.

The new pedals are LOOK and they are allen key only fitting. Hope they don't get stuck!

Cheers

Dear Flying Spaghetti Monster,

If you're there, and listening, please can you make it so that MountainMutant doesn't come to the Evans where I shall be mechanicking tomorrow? Undoing customer-mashed pedals from easily-scratched carbon-faced cranks is more-often-than-not an acursed job. Should your benevolence not extend to my working hours, might you see to it that MountainMutant brings biscuits along for the mechanic's labours...?

(Just kidding, bring it on!) 😉
