Hi all. Recently picked up a new recon fork on here and upon inspection I think it's best I replace my cane creek vp-a71 headset.
It's crap. Bad seals, caged bearings. Etc
I have the cane creek s3 in mind. Sealed bearings and some pretty decent reviews for the price.
My questions. Is this a simple swap and go solution or do I have to get a specific size of the s3?
Will this come with a new crown race? If not what one should I buy?
I heard split ones are easier to install?
Will the bearings be included in a standard retail unit?

Thanks.

LB

Will come with race, mines not split.
mine seized in 3 months wet use so make sure you open the bearing seal and grease them, been ok since i did mine.
Need correct size for headtube ie one and eighth or one point five.

Ooh. Mine will be used in A LOT of wet weather! Does anyone have any recommendations on a sub £30 headset with good waterproofing.

Otherwise will go down the surgical method seano recommends.

FSA and Cane Creek headsets are both made by THindustries so should be of similar quality (IME FSA use a different bearing size to CC, CC have blue seals, FSA are red and the angle of the race is subtly different).

Cool. Will check out the options then. I gather the degree of the headset doesn't matter so long as you have a race to suit?
