Hi.
Bought some brakes from the classifieds a few weeks back, but the goodridge hoses that are fitted are too long. Can I cut them down using cable snips or a knife? They are shimano brakes, so do I need a new olive and insert like I would if it were Shimano hoses?

Cheers

when I tried cable snips the braiding spalled. At recommendation off here I got some Maplin steel rope cutters which were much cleaner - however my LBS suggested using a fresh Stanley knife blade, and rolling it back and forth till it cuts through. This took about 5 minutes but was a good clean cut

Never done it myself but in regards to the above how about a Dremmel type tool with thin cut off disc attached.

A decent pair of cable cutters does a good job.

get some park tools cable cutters. I've had a pair for 8 years now and they're still going strong.
