I've stupidly ordered and received 4m of brake cable outer when I wanted gear cable outer. Gaahh!

Could I use it as a continuous gear cable outer, or will it cause endless ghost shifting?

Expect problems if you do I reckon. Probably less hassle to order the right stuff and wait for that to arrive.

You can - particularly with front gears but IME for the rear it's a bit vague and will ghost. It'll work as a temporary bodge to get you out but I wouldn't plan on it being long term as it'll get annoying...

If you are going to do it BTW, keep the outer as short as it possibly can be with bends as tight as possible to prevent it compressing so much (which leads to the ghost shifting).

OK thanks. I imagine then, that the problem will be at the handlebar end when I turn the bars and the big loop gets squashed.

Basically yes - the bigger the loop, the more it can compress

damn could have swapped your outer for some sp41 outer but bought some brake cables and used them now.

I bought a 10m roll of SP41 for a bike I am building for a mate so was going to sell the rest cheap on here if you are after some and want it tonight as I think you are not far from me? (near a certain pub we have mentioned before).
