I’m considering my options in the current ‘not everything is available’ market. I’m assuming there’s an issue with pull ratio using the 10 speed mech?

With Shimano you can, provided the mech has the capacity for your chosen cassette range I believe 10 and 11 speed mechs are interchangeable.

Yep, just built my Iroko with 11speed and used a 10 speed mech off another bike - Works perfectly, Range is 11-46, I had 10 speed 11-48 cassette and the mech wouldn’t clear the 48t sprocket.

Which mech/shifter/cassette are you actually considering? There are enough different flavours or 10 and 11 speed parts that it's not as simple....

I’ve got a 10 speed xtr mech using a sunrace mech hanger extender thing, currently 10 speed 11-46t cassette. Seems plenty of b-screw potential for a bigger cassette. Was thinking of using an 11 speed slx shifter and sunrace 11 speed 11-50t cassette. Mainly because I can’t find one of the sunrace 11-50 10 speed cassettes anywhere…

Road or mtb

I think mtb it’s no

Road is yes provided it’s a Tiara 4700 mech or grx 10 speed mech

Do not say old 105 when that was 10 speed

Got a 11-48, if you're interested, never used (not Sunrace, but similar) 🙂

Well, it's Yes. See above.
Just checked 11-46 11spd XT cassette, M7000-11 SLX shifter, M-786 XT mech and 11 spd chain.

According to http://blog.artscyclery.com/science-behind-the-magic/science-behind-the-magic-drivetrain-compatibility/ the derailleur ratio is 1.2 vs 1.1, so it's probably close enough to work.
