Is it possible to Mullet a Charge Cooker and if so would you do it?
What year/model?
I can't really see why for most of them? They're an old fashioned (although well executed) short/steep XC frame.
IIRC all but the earliest ones will take a 27.5*2.8. The last ones were 27.5*3.0 so would take 29" wheels comfortably with normal tyres.
It's possible to mullet any bike. Whether it's a good idea or not is another question. Why do you want to?
You need to check your headset type. If the frame can take a tapered fork, there will be a lot of forks available. If it is limited to a strait steerer fork, you might need to look around for a used fork or look at things like the Suntour Epicon.
Then you need to decide whether to go 27.5" or 29" and the fork travel. If you go 29", you will slacken the geometry off a lot and it will probably suck on the climbs but be more stable on descents.
I'm assuming it's an old 26" frame and fork. If you're doing this because your current fork is knackered, putting in a 27.5" fork with a 26" front wheel will probably work ok without affecting the geometry too much and you will have a fork that you can switch to a more modern bike in the future.
The title of the thread say Charge cooker 29er, so to mullet it, you just put a 27.5 wheel in the back. Job done.
How it rides is another matter but only one way to find out...
Yes, should have read the thread title. A 27.5" wheel in the back will drop the bottom bracket slightly and slacken the angles a bit. If you have the wheel already, just try it and see how it works.
Yeah it’s a 29er and I need a new back wheel. Been offered a cheapish 27.5 just wondering what people thought. Rides well as 29 and understand it’s a xc geometry fairly old school
I wouldn't mullet a bike just for the sake of picking up a cheap wheel. I'm sure it would work fine as a mullet but if you're happy with it as standard, much simpler to just keep it that way.
