Having time on your hands and eyeing up bikes can be a dangerous thing.
I've been Shimano for ages now, all my gear is Shimano. But hopefully at some point I'll get some money back to replace my broken Ultegra kit.
I was going to go for SRAM Force this time around, but thinking about it, it's only the wheels that are compatable.
Now I've been looking at Campagnolo Chorus 11 Speed, and either Neutron or Kysrium wheels to go with it.
If I was starting with a clean sheet I'd go for Campy, perhaps nows the time to start phasing it in?
Also would 11 speed run over an FSA 9/10 speed chainset. If it would it would mean a second/training bike would be a doddle to build up.
Yeah I use an 11 group and chain on an older 10spd chainset (got an 11spd compact and a 10spd standard, and swap between them).
11 speed is more attractive now you have aftermarket chains (KMC) and splitters/riveters (Pedro's do one).
On the flip side, I was a bit miffed when I broke the shift return spring (holds the shift paddle up against the brake lever) and had to replace the entire ergo assembly, minus brake lever and hood. Campag 10 is better in that respect, you can buy just the paddle assy.
IMO the ergonomics are far more important than the 10/11 speed thing. I can't stand Campag Ergo levers, and dislike Double Tap. Shimano all the way for me! If you like the feel of Campag then yes go nuts.
You're bang on. Tried SRAM and couldn't get on. I have my hoods in the 'ski pole' position and the SRAMs are diddy. The latest version of the Campag is for me great. Plus it's lighter and I prefer the aesthetics.
If you remember I'll hardly be racing, and was drawn to the Campagnolo kit because I thought I could allow aesthetics to count. However, it's really good for me and lighter.
Perfect justification then, get it! I still like the old Shimano hoods best - I like to rest my thumbs on the cables, don't want them under the bar tape ๐
