Looking to hit the trails this wend can anybody recommend a campsite that is close and will have space
Scotgate in Braithwaite is a great site.
Good facilities, lots of space, and probably the closest one to whinlatter.
Yep Braithwaite will be best bet
I stayed in a farmhouse b&b in Braithwaite last week, walked through that campsite a couple of times. its a beautifull site, and Whinlatter is just a two/three mile cycle away.....although it is seriously uphill all the way!
The Wheatsheaf at Lorton good food and drink too.

Always stay round there but looking for winter alternatives to the chalets at Scotgate or the Coledale.
Whinlatter is just a two/three mile cycle away.....although it is seriously uphill all the way!
There is about 100m of downhill just before you get to whinlatter ! 
whenever we go to the lakes we always camp at lanefoot farm, just past braithwaite, the chap lets you have real fires outside your tent which is ace. Facilities are always spotless and there's no issue with same sex groups like at some family campsites.

Oh I wouldn't cycle up to whinlatter from braithwaite if I were you, you'll regret it if you do.......
Lanefoot farm is also at the bottom and a farm site on a farm /cottage rather than field by the main road so more rustic and "natural" - its also not even on the ground, allows fires and has chickens - camping pods are also available
I prefer it to the Scotgate personally but far more rustic
Whinfell Farm at Lorton usually has plenty of space (it did on the first May bank holiday). Cheap and basic but a nice spot and much quieter on that side of the pass if Keswick / Braithwaite sites are rammed.
Flat, hedge sheltered fields, hot water and 20p hot-ish showers. Toilets quite basic but clean and functional. Nothing else there beyond that.

Its actually self catering, but the wife was doing all the cooking so it was a B&B for me! :D. Can't recommend it highly enough, it is huge, sleeps 8 , loads of period features, and best of all is its a one minute walk to the pub!Where did you stay ? Lanefoot is good.
However are you a group or couple ?
If you are a group of lads you will struggle to get on anywhere.
