Meeting some friends up at Dalby on Saturday. I've never been but thought I'd make a weekend of it.

Anyone know of good campsites nearby that allow you to have fires?

I'll faff about at Dalby on Saturday but might be able to convince the o/h to come on a natural ride on Sunday somewhere in the north yorks moors. So second question is anyone got recommendations of a, say, 15-20 mile loop?

🙂

we've camped here http://www.dalby-forest.co.uk/camping-dalby-forest.htm its right by the entrance to the forest so couldn't be much closer. Nice site but no idea if they'll let you have a fire on the ground if that's what you want, I doubt it though.
..and check this for some route suggestions: http://www.pedalnorth.com/content/north-yorks-moors-mtb-routes

We stayed here https://stoneclosecampsite.co.uk/ right in the forest but definitely no fires. Good site though and ride straight onto the trails.

Second recommendation for Stoneclose.
It's right in the middle, about 200m from the red trail.
The rules are strictly enforced though, one of which is no fires.

EDIT: Also, if staying there then the entry to Dalby is included, saving you £8 for parking

Third for Stoneclose.

We did a nice ride in May around Rosedale (also some interesting historic bits out on the trails). Dale Head Farm tea garden is a great place to stop up there for huge pieces of home made cake - and rather conveniently a bridleway descends straight to the door 🙂

Ta for the tips. I'll leave the non-fire campsites for the summer tho (it's grim at night without something to sit around) 🙂

Was going to suggest the nearby youth hostel but that is also closed for the winter. Clearly nobody at Dalby wants any visitors this time of year

Pfffft. Camp in the snow...

...as long as there's fire 😉
