Has anyone stopped over at the top car park at glentress in a campervan/motorhome. Planning to go up in the next few weeks and the local campsites seem to be closed for the winter.

thanks

Kurt

I've seen folk do it, not sure whether its accepted practice etc

Maybe wait until its dark (4ish...) before you drive up ๐Ÿ™‚

Under the access laws it would appear to be Ok to do so but IMO is a bit of a grey area. the guidance is here

Ok thanks,

Does anyone know if there are any local sites open in december that allow motorhomes.

Thanks again

Kurt

Yes as you can stay with a camper van at the www.glentressforestlodges.co.uk site. Give the owner a ring or email him. There are some electric hook ups too. Plus you can have an open fire and the facilities are far better than port a loo at Buzzards.

I've done similar at Kirroughtree and Dalbeattie, no issues and there was at least one other overnighter.

Don't see the harm, pay the parking fee and don't leave a mess, simples.

there's tweedside caravan park at innerliethen and rosetta caravan park at peebles, not so sure on the whole staying in the carpark but you probably could if you (like already mentioned) go up in the dark

hope this helps.

We have never had an issue at Glentress. Once had a visit from some Neds at Dalbeattie. Was a bit concerned as they threw burning debris from their car, and had to stifle a chuckle as they ripped the rear bumper off when wheelspinning out of the carpark.

I didnt but in the morning i saw a van in the carpark right at the top of the hill by the freeride area - dont think it would be a problem (I will probably stay there next time!), just go straight on instead of going around to the right past the new big shop.

I ended up staying just outside the town. Go into the town having come from glentress, go left at the roundabout, left again after the bridge and follow the road for around 5mins (b7062) and you get to a little forest carpark with public toilets (cardrona). 2 nights, no disturbance, happy days. Forestry guys came in both mornings and said nothing.

One of our guys slept in his Mazda bongo at the buzzards couple of weeks ago while another slept in a tent next to him, no problems..couple of us slept in one of the lodges...done a couple of night rides over the last couple of months and seen other camper vans at the buzzards..dont think theres a problem with as long as theres no mess left.

Not done it but know of plenty that have parked up overnight at Buzzards..
Seems to be ok as long as you don't leave a mess!

I've stayed with a couple of mates in vans with no issues. A warden type van was kicking about and the driver never bothered. Just mind and take any rubbish home with you. We had great fun doing a nightride then beer and bbq.

Yes, van at Buzzards is fine. Nice and quiet, great nights sleep, and what a stunning view in the morning. Fine with tents there too, as DoubleDunter says. It was well below zero too, really enjoyed it..... apart from the pretty sore legs I had after a wee off.....

A wee-off?
Is that like a pissing contest?

Pretty sure you can use the showers and facilities at the wigwams as well for a small fee.

Thanks for the advice. Going to park up at the wig wam as they also have hook up and you can use the facilities.

Nice one

Kurt
