do you have to use a campag bb for their square taper chainset, i believe for a double i need a 111mm bb can i use any square taper for this
ta
Well it's a yes and no answer.
Experience says that yes, you can use a non-Campag BB but the chainline won't be the same for the same axle length as the tapers are slightly different (IIRC shimano uses the Japanse standard while Campag uses the 'International' standard which is actually not as common as the Japanese one...).
I can't recall which way round it is but if you use a shimano BB with a campag chainset, you need the axle to be a few mm longer or shorter.
It's also worth noting that Chorus and Record square taper chainsets use a 102mm Campag BB, not 111.
ISO cranks (Campagnolo, Stronglight, others) won't go as far onto J.I.S. spindles as they ideally should.
J.I.S. cranks (most Japanese models) may bottom out if installed on ISO spindles. In practice, you can very often get away with mixing these sizes, as long as you select an axle length that gives the desired chainline

If you install an ISO crank on a J.I.S. spindle, it will sit about 4.5 mm farther out than it would on an ISO spindle of the same length

So you'd need a very narrow Shimano BB (102mm = 111 - 2x4.5) to fit a chainset designed for a 111mm Campag BB
