who takes one out on rides with them? What do you take and how do you carry it?
Lumix LX3 which fits in my jersey pocket.
MTB - always have an Olympus TG1, in a Lowe Pro pouch on the shoulder strap of my Osprey.
Road rides? Rarely, but same camera, in a jersey pocket.
Ski - Always. Same camera, in a jacket pocket, secured with an ickle karabiner to a loop in the pocket for lift-shot security!
lx3 here too. Takes great pictures in variable light and its pretty fast too. I also have a waterproof camera for when the weather is a bit wet. Either way I clip it to the strap on rucksack so I can get to it quickly. Its no use buried in a bag.
iPhone 4 and LX3 - very occasionally my DSLR.

Canon S95 in my backpack side pocket. Or a gopro.
Ixus, in back pocket of jersey usually.
Waited for new model to come out, then go to store to buy the 6 month old model (already trashed one camera, dropping it, so didn't make sense getting the best. Plus I have DSLR too)
