Hello all,
I've had my camelbak mule for around a month now and I've gotta say its an excellent piece of kit.
However, I've got one gripe with it and you probably all know what I'm going to say here.
It tastes gross! I thought the rank taste from bite valve would go in a couple of weeks, but no.
Any tips to get rid? is it possible? or do you have to put up with the resuscitation dummy taste?
Cheers.

What have you been putting in it? I had no taste at all from mine until I tried a foul tasting powdered energy drink. It now tastes of chemicals. Bleh!

I hate those rubber valves and bought a Blackburn valve 12 years ago, which is still working fine:

however I've not been able to find them for sale any longer...

Milton tablet in a full bladder of water. Make sure you force the water down the tube and through the bite valve. Leave it overnight. Make sure you empty it and rinse before you use it.

My Mule is years old and there's never been any taste from the bite valve.

bicarb is good for shifting nasty tastes. I've heard some people use steradent tables. Clean it all out and leaves it minty fresh!

Take the valve off, stick the hose on the steam nozzle on your Gaggia esprosso maker.....quick blast of steam....sorted

old ones never tasted of anything - but my new one is awful - hoping it'll go away after some steradent treatment.

it's only 20mm across - I just hook my teeth on the outer lip and hold down the button with my tongue to get full flow. I used it for 10 years before I discovered it comes apart for cleaning :o)

Milton doesn't leave the Sterident taste. I prefer it.

I just use one of these instead of a valve

you do have to turn the tap on & off but it's easy enough
