So obviously converting HRM data to estimated calorie use is a bit of a black art / making up numbers, but I notice that Strava and Garmin are always out by 50% for the same HRM input.
Does anyone have an opinion on what one is more realistic? (obviously right now I'm telling people the higher count)

I always halve the Garmin numbers but i believe that the newer units are much better
