All the same Bosch motor and controls. There is currently no UK service centre and getting hold of parts is a long-winded, ball ache.

Also the price list reads like an Aston Martin options list.
£6-700 for a replacement battery I believe. £6-700 again for a motor. See that little LCD screen on the bars that will be wiped off in your first crash? £150.

Good fun bikes but I'd wait until they're a bit more commonplace and there's a UK supplier for parts and servicing.

I was out on Friday with a friend (recovering from chemo) who has the cube. It looks well built and has a good spec (none electric bits) with the Bosch battery/motor/ controller. It enabled him to ride 39miles with us and has hugely recovered his joy in MTBing. Bloody fast uphill too when you give it full beans. Although only assists to 15mph.

I've only ridden the Cube (though I'm guessing they are pretty similar). It's an astonishing experience. Having the motor within the crank area is definitely better than the rear- or front-wheel drive systems. With that and the centrally mounted battery, balance isn't too bad.

Spare batteries are still a bit expensive but Bosch have a ready supply of them. We've had a couple of replacement head units supplied by Cube after a quick phone call.

It's an area in which there is a fast rate of change/development. Compare these bikes to what was around 5 years ago and project that out 5-10 years into the future. Looks like I might be able to enjoy cycling for a good few years yet!

I've ridden a Haibike hardtail and it was a hoot.

Too much cash? Try here:

Yes, the motorised assitance drops off at 16mph but they can be unlocked easily. The unrestricted ones will hit 35-40 easily but the battery life suffers. I rode an unrestricted Specialized Turbo in France and it was, erm... alarming!

I can 'almost' justify one as sometimes my camera bag is heavier then my bike and I'm out for a shoot rather than a ride, but I need to do a lot more MTB specific photography before I take the plunge.

what about that gruber assist that kicked around a few years ago, convert existing bike with something inside the seat tube connected directly to the crank.

there is also a few projects kickstarting about that have the latest battery technology in the wheels, and hence you pick the bike you want.
Copenhagen wheel
and another i forget, but searching the above will probably lead you to it....
