I'm from Hudds and am bored of my local stuff so going to venture over to Calderdale.
I'm looking to do a loop which includes Norland moor, North Dean Woods and Elland woods - and Stoodley Pike if that's possible?
Could somebody give me a rough idea of the posibilites? Is there a trail through North Dean Woods? Any advice/good ideas/routes most welcome.
Dave.
You don't have time for riding anymore Dave, you've double the bottles and nappies to sort out now lad!!
Haha I've got plenty of time for that! What better a time for biking than paternity leave?! Can't face mountain biking in Hudds anymore, havent been out on it in months!
I quite often do a 30 mile loop taking in Norland moor, Brighouse, Southowram, Shibden valley and back to Queensbury. It's a bit of everything really, Bridleways, singletrack, canal path, woods and some road stuff to get you home.
My back yard. Drop me a mail - dirtscene@btopenworld.com and I'll send you details of a good loop that'll take in most of that (or all if you're feeling sadistic). Quite a bit is cheeky - theres officially no legal ROW through the good parts of Elland Woods or Norland Moor so don't want to publicise it here.
Your route is very doable and a good one.
Start in Brighouse by canal allong to Elland Woods, through there (bluebell fest at the mo) short stretch on canal to salterhebble, take road towards west vale, cut into northdean woods, climb up and follow top edge, follow lanes and road to norland, cross moor. Consult map as to your best way down to Ripponden, several good options. Take bridleways up Ryeburn valley and over moors to top end of crag vale (or go down stake lane to mytholmroyd if you like)crag vale - stoodley various options which you can see on the map. From Stoodley take your pick of ways down to the canal and back to Brighouse. Or head over to stairs lane and ogden moor and some road back to brighouse.
I might be up for the ride if you let me know when
Bit of a hijack.
I did the Colne Challenge at the weekend and it suprised me how little off road riding there was/decent off road, or did the challenge just miss most of it out?
If anybody fancies giving me a guided tour of what you have suggested please email me - see profile. I'm free until next Tuesday in the day time.
Regarding Huddersfield - There are lots of fantastic bits of offroad - its just that I've done in too many times recently!
If you can get to the Ritz Ballroom in Brighouse for 7pm on a Monday, we do a group ride from there every week. Happy to show you most of what's been suggested above (and more) ๐

I'd have been up for showing you around on Sunday but Mugboo is taking me on a cheeky tour of Bingley. Ace...
A few of us go out ever Wednesday at 6:00pm and Thursday 7:30, followed by a beer in the nearest pub at the end.FunkyDunc - MemberBit of a hijack.
