Have got a new frame, not too bothered about doing a full invisiwrap type protection but do want to but something to protect from the usual cable rub spots.

What’s the STW approved solution?

My last lot of Fibrax gear cable came with some nice frame protector things that go on the cable itself.  Similar to these

They also do a spiral thing that can go on cables that have already been fitted but not tried those.

Those fibrax spiral things work well initially but I find that they do move so you can’t really guarantee they’ll be where you need.

any helicopter tape or similar is good, or I have also used lizard skin patches before

I use some SRAM cable condoms, or whatever they're called, similar to those Fibrax ones. Generally stay in place for a reasonable time. Just make sure they're in the correct place when you give the bike a quick clean/grease/oil.

Invisiframe do a patch kit that’s very good. That’s what’s just come on my new frame.
Used to use helicopter tape but found it went yellow and brittle after a few years. Plus it was a pain to cut neatly. Invisiframe stuff much better. Full wrap on my bike still looks like new after two years. Comes in matte finish as well.

Gorilla tape crystal clear, cut to shape on my titanium cross bike. Small rubber stickers on another. The latter never goes off road, so less of a friction/grinding issue.

Preferred solution is to re-route the cables so they don't rub, but that's not always an option.

I've just bought some GussetTek tape from Tredz, which has a 3M logo on it, but is thinner than the proper heli tape I've used previously.

I've used this Lifeline stuff on a couple of bikes. It's thicker than Invisiframe and quite soft so the big bits are good for helping with rocks etc on the downtube.

Plenty of little circles for cable rub and some nice big bits for wherever else.

£2.69 well spent.
