Cheap cable cutters mash cable, park, pedro or felco. You can use a dremmel though if you have one. Alternatively I have used a sharp cold chisel on a anvil but you need to make sure you have a little spare cable as it's not conistantly good like cable cutters.

IceToolz Cable Cutters - £15

Work better than my Park Tools ones (which cost 3x as much 😕 ) and they have a nifty bit for opening up the housing.

Sounds weird but I use Stanley tin snips and they work really well for cables and outers! Only cost about £7 and work great for cutting metal too.

I'm fairly certain proper cable cutters like the ones posted are the right tool for the job but I've had good results with my Leatherman for the inners and a hacksaw and file for the outers.

I actually use the black Icetoolz ones which are slightly more expensive but the guys in my LBS use the red ones in their workshop.

We both agree they're better than the Park Tools cutters. They cut consistently and open up outer cables nicely. My Park Tools ones just mash the cable no matter how much you adjust them.

Rolson on eBay have worked well for me for the last 4 years, think they were £7.
