Looking to get some cable cutters to replace the side cutters that I currently use. No budget in mind but want something that works well and will last.
What would you lot recommend?

People'll recommend Park, probably, but mine aren't very good. Very nice crimper tool for the end caps and they're decent at outers, but they seemed to blunt quickly and started fraying cables. Unimpressed.

These are what I use now... They've had a lot more use now than my Parks and they're still going strong.

To be fair, mine are pretty recent Parks, I get the feeling they've let quality slip on a few items so it could well be the older ones are as good as they should be.

I bought a pair of sturdy pliers a few years ago in B+Q, which serve as cable cutters. Cost me three pounds.

Those one that Northwind linked are exactly the same as ones branded by companies in the bike game (I've got some) but add £20 onto the price tag. I was one of those people stupid enough to buy them at the ridiculous mark up. In my defence, I needed them sharpish and forgot that a DIY store might have exactly the same thing for a fraction of the price. 😳

Oh, they're good cutters too. They cut outer well and no fraying on inner cables. At the price of the ebay link, get them straight away!

😆 They're exactly the same as the ones in Northwind's link except they cost £45 more! 😆

+1

Still cut well but at that price may get spare pair

Shimano used to be the best, don't know if they still do them, mine are 15yo now are still work just fine.

I had the Park cutters, which were fantastic util I used them to cut through a loop the electrician had left in the ring, for me to fit a socket. What he forgot to tell me was that the loop was on the downstairs ring not the upstairs one, which I had switched off, so there was a loud bang and a big flash and I got the cutter blade spark eroded and after that it never worked.

Since then I have had two cheaper cable cutters and neither works very well so Santa is bringing me a new Park cutter and the others will go on Eblag.

Got Parks from about 15years ago were expensive even then but other than ovaling outers a bit when you cut them can't fault them, still really sharp and feel pretty much like new, bit grubby on the handles now but can live with that. That said those eBay ones look like they're the business, just curious about the longevity, they're cheap enough to replace but if I find out they need replacing when they mangle a set of Gore cables then not such a bargain.

I got some Cyclo ones from Halfords and they work absolutely fine. Think they were about £20-25.

Ebay ones are tempting but a built in crimper would be good.

A built in crimper !!!

Just dont squeeze so hard on the cutters over the crimp

I very rarely used the crimper even when i worked in the shop as they are shite - three light clamps in the jaws of the cutter and hat end caps going no where 🙂
