GF is after a bike on C2W, likely to be used for the odd day ride, commute & maybe wee tour.

I suggested this:

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_502571_langId_-1_categoryId_165534

As this seem a bit poor in comparison, though not bad value:

Is there anything else out there? Hybrids seem heavy and flat bar road bikes won't take mudguards or panniers etc. Ideally a flat-bar tourer with clearance and long reach calipers - does not seem to exist at a low price.

I don't know much about either of those. Although one of the guys here has just got a Boardman on the C2W and seems pleased with it.

My local bikeshop accepts Halfords vouchers. It may be worth seeing if yours does too. That's the route I went down. I now have a shiny new Trek on C2W.

Cheers - looked around and £500 hybrids don't seem as good from Trek etc (I have V-brakes, maybe I need to get over that)

Just get a bigger voucher. The more you spend the more you save. 🙂

It's not my money and I don't want her to bow a wad in case it doesn't get much use.

Marin Corte Madera takes mudguards and rack....
