The moors around Hebden Bridge, Todmorden & Littleborough were muddy in the extreme today. The bike and my legs couldn't have been any more filthy. Disappointed.
It was a full on mud and sheep crap fest in the North Penines yesterday, proper winter levels of wet with all the overnight rain. The high temperatures made some of the muddy ditches extra fetid.
I went out for a ride yesterday round Macclesfield Forest and Cumberland Brook. It was rainy and grey but warm, and I find the local trails easier to ride when it's wet- all those loose stones stick together a bit. When it's dry and dusty, it's like riding over marbles!
Cannock was great yesterday afternoon the rain stops it getting too dusty
Anyone who says it's "too dry" is a chump. It's only too dry if you need a fat bike to get through. ๐ก
Managed to get out for a massive 5 miles around Hebden Bridge between the showers on Saturday and all the rocks were greasy. Fun in its own way as a one off but I've had that all last winter and will have it all next winter too so I'd rather have the dust back again.
Had to wear a base layer for the first time since about April too.

Agreed!!
great pic munrobiker!!
Well the weathers looking great all week with searing high temps and clear blue sky's, the trails will all be back to dust before you know it and we'll all be bemoaning "a drop of rain".
Enjoy, should be a hoot.
The idea that its bye bye dusty trails works on the premise that they ever arrived in the first place. Well they never did in East Lancs. Its been liquid sunshine all the way. And it hasn't stopped raining for 4 days solid now. Proper horizontal monsoon-level rain too. Tonights ride will be an ideal opportunity to christen my new winter boots. Its going to be filthy!
Even when we had 4 days of sun early last week I still had to get the jet wash out after every ride for some reason?! Was expecting dusty trails everywhere. Must have been that much rain, mud and shit around from all the previous weeks of rain that even those four hot sunny days were not enough. When the rain returned this weekend Sundays ride was full-on bad Winter levels of mud. Its supposed to be going sunny and warm again after today but it's probably not enough after all the rain. This must be the worst run of bad weather I can ever remember.Since November last year every month was been wet in the extreme, except May.
Just had an awesome afternoon in Surrey Hills. Being a chump I would suggest that the rain has made the trails even better than last week when they were a tad dusty!!
Some of the classics - Telegraph Rd and BKB were the fastest I have known them and nice to ride secret squirrel in the dry!!
All of Pitch was running wonderfully well too. Absolute last on almost perfect trail conditions!!
Need to make the most of them!!
Been out tonight and although enjoyable, it was way beyond dusty trails being damped down - it was like bloody winter, but muggy...
Its been like winter near enough every day since May, not sure i'd know what dust looks like any more. Think Sunday was the first proper summer day of the year.
