Hi, looking for some inspiration for replacement mtb for my wife so we can go on better family trail rides.
Budget: £500, maybe more for the right bike. New or used.
Type: hardtail, trail capable, forest stuff, some red routes, mostly blue. (We have a 5 year old, who is pretty capable.)
My wife likes my whyte 905, but much prefers the 8 year old high-end Scott Scale borrowed off a friend at the mo. She likes it’s lightness, similar to the Whyte, but more so the more upright riding position. I find it rides very stably, planted, compared to the Whyte’s relative ‘skittishness’.
So...weight (within budget) and geometry most important. Durability not that important. I bet it’ll do no more than 10 rides per year and they will be light work. Main thing is that she enjoys the ride, which she wont on a heavy crashing piece of pig iron (i tried her with such a machine and it’s kind of out her off until she got on the Scott recently.)
Had a look at a Scott Scale new in Evans, reduced to £500, but found it to be suprisingly heavy! Maybe I need to look used...but where from? Not much on ebay. We’re in the North East of England.
So.. any ideas where to look?
Errmmm - we have a virtually unused specialised myka that might be for sale 26" wheels. PM me if interested.

This is what my wife rides and loves it. On sale at Rutland at tredz in other sizes also.
For that money I would hold out for a good second hand bike. It will be a faff, but fit is everything. Mrs_OAB loved the move from cheap heavy bikes to her light Cannondale F900SL, and now really appreciates the Superfly whenever she has a spin on others (heavier) bikes.
Wanted ad on here and search Pinkbike - local wanted on the facebook bikes for sale etc ...
I do not know tjagain I feel need to say.
Mrs has a Juliana but rides a 26 Myka some days and still really rates it.
