Never really been happy with performance of Pikes on my otherwise wonderful stumpjumper, tried all combos of tokens and compression/rebound and htey were either smooth-ish but too divey, or supportive but only helping on big hits. Always felt a wee bit noodly too(bearing in mind I'm a big fella, and I realise it could be the wheels)
So, I was perusing who had 150mm 29er lyriks for a good price and 'accidentially' hit purchase from alltricks. 😯
The best forks I ever owned were a pair of 170mm coil 2-step Lyriks i ran on my NP Mega - they were so stiff and smooth. Will I even get close thier performance with the solo air?
Help allieviate my buyers remorse please 🙂
Mate reckoned SRAM Torque caps for the fork were well worth it along with a good wheel build for reducing flex. That is a lot of wheel to be keeping under control.
You'll be thrilled with them. Just what you need if that's how you feel about the Pikes.
Disclaimer : I haven't ridden any, I'm just doing this as a public service to cheer you up, because I'd love someone to do the same to me when I get remorse. Have I mentioned yet that I ordered a Jeffsy 29 in the wee small hours of Sunday morning ?
You have made a terrible mistake. I'm feeling charitable today though, so I'll take the Lyrik off your hands for 50% of what you paid.

Seriously, yes you will get close to the performance of the old RS coil Mission Control damped forks. You might even prefer the new Lyrik, it's slightly less plush but with a bit more support IMO.
The bigger negative spring on the Lyrik should help a lot with smoothing out the start of the travel whilst holding it up through the midstroke. And if it still needs more of that get a Luftkappe added at its first service!
Erm.... Are you selling thise rubbishy old pikes?
Drop me a line if you are.
Agree with Chaka, noticeably more support over the pikes.
The Lyriks will be better, heavier but better at what you describe...
I hate to say it, but you could have eased your woes a lot easier with a Luffkappe, it's pretty much designed to offer small bump compliance and firm mid-stoke, but hey, new and shiny is new and shiny!
Yeah coulda saved £100s and got the luftkappe 😉
It's been a great improvement on mine
I did follow the luftkappa thread, also the chat about a real spring instead of air, but I don't have a particularly good history with 'bodges', and, well, as above: Shiny 🙂
Anyone care to share how compression/rebound/token use differed with a move from Pikes to Lyriks?
I'm thinking to add one more token than standard for a kick off.
the luftkappe is not a bodge.
I think you'll still be disappointed.
But if he can get a luftkappe for the lyrics he gets TWO new shiny things not one. 😈
Boom! garage-dweller saves the day 🙂

I think the Lyrik has the new (debonair?) air spring as of last year, they just kept it quiet and announced it this time round when this years pike got it too.
Coils rule - should have done the conversion.
Coils are back in, our overlords at Ohlins are ushering in a glorious coil future by bringing out a coil RXF. 😀
Convert heathen.

I went from 160mm pikes to 170mm lyriks. I set everything the same , the lyriks work well.
