So for the last two years my nukeproof has been going back and forward to crc for warranty work, same issue every time which was play/creaking in the frame. It's original guise was the tr275 which some 5 months ago they decided to swap out for the new mega. A great gesture and one I thought would sort the issues once an for all. That bike has now been back twice for the same issues. So Someone at crc has finally said no more, it's the shock eyelet bush, we've replaced it and that's it. The latest version has lasted 150 miles/5 weeks and they are saying that it is a reasonable amount of time to require swapping.
Any thoughts?
Your warranty doesn't re-generate with new bits.
If it comes with a 2 year warranty even if they replace the whole bike with 1 month left, you only get 1 month warranty on the new bike....
So if the warranty was 2 years... they've done their bit.
Whatever happens with CRC, I'd be looking at getting a more reliable bushing for future use matey.
I have a little play/ creaking on mine and have never done anything about it and it has never got worse (2014 model) also had the same on my orange 5 and spesh (only the creaking) used to put a bit gt85 on the shock bushings and it would quieten down for a while.
To be fair, shock bushings are pretty straightforward to replace yourself and they are consumables. Folk like TFT sell uprated bushings and bushing replacement tools, so there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to sort it yourself with very little hassle - two bolts to undo, press the old one out, press the new one in, bolt back together.
Assuming that replacement bushings do sort out the creaking?
Weeksy has it.
I'd agree that the life you're getting out of them is a bit shit, but the problem with warranties is that they don't always mean the manufacturer actually believes things will last that long, just that they'll replace bits on the things that actually get used until the end of the warranty.
I'd search out some more durable after market bushings as others have suggested.
Odd to have the same issue across two frames, when most of us get a year or two out of bushings.
Can someone recommend the OP a DU bushing replacement tool, as I happen to need one as well?
Are you a jet wash user OP?
Ran a Mega AM for years in brutal scottish conditions and I think I only changed the bushings once
Never jet washed any of the bikes. I'm a leave it dirty till crusty then brush off. Just keep the drive train clean and the uppy down bits. I've got to the point of saying **** it but I really didn't like the last email from the warranty manager. You could actually feel the knocking there was that much play, nothing laterally just back/forward up/down. I've spoke to a local lad who is a suspension mechanic and he also suggested it was poor only lasting that long. What does make me think they know there's an issue is that they've included two spare bushings for "future use".
It's literally just been delivered back to work so I think I'll just get out and ride and upgrade...
So I think they've given you a new frame and 2 bushing replacements. That seems to me to be excellent service. As above bushings are consumables, if I where you I'd just get the lbs to service the lot and move on. Maybe the bearings are the wring size ? Not a maint expert but I had a small problem on my Covert with creaking after first ride and they changed a bearing I think
CRC have gone above and beyond replacing consumables. You need to look at extra strong bushes and replace them more often.
Doesn't mean there's anything wrong with your care or the frame. It just needs some TLC now and then.
The latest version has lasted 150 miles/5 weeks and they are saying that it is a reasonable amount of time to require swapping
I would disagree, going through a set of shock bushings every 150 miles is not normal or acceptable IMO, but as always other opinions are available...
Right now the question you should be asking is "why do my bushings wear out so quickly", the answer to that will dictate next steps.
- they're just shit = get better ones (arguable they supply them but at this point I'd let it go)
- you're doing something wrong = stop doing the wrong thing
- something is broken/misaligned = get back on to them as it's obviously been that way for a while undiagnosed
- other = other...
As above.
Its not rocket surgery or brain science.
