Not a hit and run. Taxi that he collided with stopped at the scene.

No, but maybe, just maybe it wasn't his fault.

South African tv news short on details but report that he was training alone, struck by a taxi in hit and run accident. Declared dead on the scene.

Another cyclist was killed 2 days ago in Krugersdorp, South Africa.

Terrible news. He was a real rising star. SA roads and drivers are notoriously dangerous. So sad.

Great rider and a tragic loss for his family. At least the driver stopped - regardless of fault, showing some sense of decency.

He was a really stong personality in the world cup front row. I'm shocked and saddened to hear the news.

A couple of pics I took of him in the summer, going all guns blazing on the last lap....

My sister just phoned me to tell me the sad news. She was at Burry's wedding earlier this year. Her husband and Burry were good friends. He was only 25, had so much cycling ahead of him.
Was a head on collision with a taxi that fled the scene. And taxi's in SA are not like the taxis over here. They are 15 seater mini busses (usually overloaded) that seldom are road worthy or taxed.

Myself and my son last saw him at the Olympics ๐Ÿ™

Has I am writing my regards, I guess how lucky I am after someone
drove straight into me in broad day light whilst road cycling on the 8th Dec 12.
Nothing broken but heavily bruised on crutches now but a slow mend

But very Sad indeed

Terrible news.

I always thought of him as a "rider's racer" - not just a converted roadie with an upper body, but a real mountain biker.

He put a couple of very nice bunny hops over what looked like foot-high rocks at the Olympics that very few others did.

RIP.

Oh dear, dreadful news. What a shock! I enjoyed seeing Burry blasting around Dalby in the World Cup races, and from the interviews and stuff I've seen, he always seemed a decent down to Earth fella.

I'd agree with dannyh
