[#3916972]

I'm contemplating building up a 2nd rear wheel for my 29'er to run as a SS only wheel - saves me swapping the cassette & brake disc etc (lazy'ish I know but hey)

I currently have Crests on Hope Pro II Evo's and I seem to recall that somewhere someone mentioned that Sun Ringle rims are essentially Stans rims with eyelets.

So with that in mind, would this here ELQ21 rim run tubless with yellow tape?

I'm aiming to build it as cheap as possible, so a hub of ebay or the classifieds and some spokes etc, build it myself and then get a mate who can build wheels to true it.

Opinions please

Incorrect.

Stans rims are made for Stans by Sun Ringle. They aren't the same as Sun Ringle rims as such.

You can run any rim tubeless with a rimstrip, or ghetto method though, and I reckon ghetto is as reliable as any other from my experience.

Cheers mboy,

So what rims are those black flag wheels then as they come with yellow tape for tubeless activities?

They probably are Stans rims, or at least if not they're like Stans rims but not available aftermarket. The ELQ21 is a conventional rim, also made by Sun Ringle, and is also very narrow at 21mm externally! It's like a Mavic Open Pro, I've seen them in the flesh. Would recommend something wider unless you want to run CX tyres myself.
