So, I`m looking around for a new adventure style bike.... Checking out the Big Brother..... ticks all the boxes..... then I see this !! what in the name of all that is holy is that?!!!
That cannot be a good idea surely?? Anyone got one? snapped one? is it a non issue
Very common, looks similar too (or it actually is) the Paragon sliding dropouts.
Means you can singlespeed it easily.
One of the best systems out there IMO.
Non issue, especially with gears, just set the length and leave.
Also allows you to change the chain stay length even when using gears which may or may not be an advantage to you. I prefer shorter so would have it set as short as possible for example which to me would be a bonus (if I could ignore how ugly it looks!)

Yeah I get the sliding dropouts, see them all the time. I cant remember seeing another bike though where the thru axle bolts into the mech hangar. How many folks here have bent or snapped a mech hanger? Im no engnineer, but I suspect it may be less prone to bending with the thru axle but could still snap? What then? That could be a very long walk home with an adventure bike.
Quite a lot of bikes these days incorporate the axle in with the mech hanger as a single piece, although perhaps more ‘tucked in’ than the brother model. Not my favourite bit of design if I’m honest, but they tend to be a fair bit sturdier than hangers of old, at least from the ones I’ve seen.
Got one. No problems at all, never even thought about it.
From memory, I'd say they're thicker than the drop out/hanger on an aluminium bike, probably 8mm

I can’t answer your question as I have my big bro set up as as single speed, glad others can though! Just to say though that I have had my big bro for four weeks now and I absolutely love it. It’s awesome as SS. Not done any touring or bike packing yet, but may at some stage.

I rode a Kona with almost identical dropouts for years. Will be fine.
Yes sram isn't the best tbh but keeps the bike to a budget I guess. cool traditional sliding dropouts though, built in versatility there, shows some forward thinking by the designers
The mech hanger is below the bolt thru. The bolt will hold it in place and it will bend or snap below. Lots of bikes use this system now.
