[#8146803]

I'm finally changing my old Blur Classic, but I'm still dithering between a Bronson and a 5010. Since my old Blur is at least 10 years old, I figure I might have the next bike for a while, do I'm inclined to go for the alloy version.

Can anyone please tell me how much their Bronson/5010 weighs, with the rough spec and frame material. It is easy to find the weight difference between the two types of carbon, but I can't see the alloy frame weight anywhere.

I plan to run Shimano 1x11 (30T x 11-46) with Pikes, Reverb post, Hope Pro 4's with Stans rims and XT brakes.

Thanks.

Bike builder gives wieghts just do the spec change between the frames to work out the change.

do I'm inclined to go for the alloy version.

Why?

Worried about the long term reliability of carbon. My local bike shop has had several high end bikes recently where the carbon frames cracked. It's put me off to be honest, although none of them were Santa Cruz's. I think they were Yeti's and Ibis.

I've snapped 2 bikes and consigned 1 to the skip another snapped not long after I sold it (all Alu), my carbon bikes are doing fine. SC have at least a 5 year warranty, if it's going to fail it will fail within that generally. I also know of about 5 people who have damaged carbon and either self repaired or locally and ridden on. Coming up to 4 years on the LTc and it's still doing great so I wouldn't personally be worried about longevity.

Hmmm. The CC bike certainly seems like the dog's doodas.

Mate has one and loves it, well quite a few mates do actually and I kind of want one ๐Ÿ™ but yeah a lot of the carbon stuff is perception and fear rather than fact. Failures due to design will appear the material is not the issue - remember all the large green commencals that snapped (mate went through about 6 I think) nearly all the first gen Nukeproof Mega's that snapped chainstays along with about 3 years of enduro's that shat their back ends...

2014 Bronson cc - had a crossed threaded bearing bolt after @ 18months use replacing bearings. SC sent new frame, no quibble and they didn't even have the old one back before the new arrived. In fact it was still sat in the LBS when the 2015 frame arrived. Great service. Life time crash replacement to.

My next bike will be a Santa Cruz I found their service, design and VPP ride to be great.

I don't think its the weight that's the significant aspect for me but Carbon IMHO has a better ride quality. They are stiffer and stronger.
