[#381652]

Folks,

Okay I have a spare 17.5" Black Cotic Soul Mk 1 gathering dust at the moment, so am thinking of swapping or selling it to fund a Brompton Folding bike.

Question.

1) Do you have a Brompton?
2) Which version do you have?
3) How good are they?
4) Possible to have disc brakes?

🙁

1) No, but seriously thinking about it
2) If I get one it'll be the S2L in Raw Laquer
3) Don't know (yet)
4) Don't think so & can't see the point on a folder. I'd imagine hubs & folding would be an issue

Didnt have a Brompton but had a Moulton small wheeled bike and couldn't get used to it. If you havent ridden a Brompton or other small wheeled bike can I respectfully suggest you do so before you buy?

I have ridden one briefly and I was amazed at how ewell it rode in a wibbly wobbly little wheeled bike way. Well made bikes.

Had an s6 until someone parked their Discovery on it just after T-boning me 3 weeks ago.
Its the best compromise of riding/folding out there.
No need for discs, get it with the DP brakes and it'll stop pretty sharpish.
Oh it was custom pink too.

I use one around work. It's great, interesting handling when used with the sail like bag up front.

Telescopic seat post is a must...

Are those 2009 models upgraded models or simply being manufactured in 2009?

1) Do you have a Brompton? had one for 5 years
2) Which version do you have? old 5 speed hub sturmey archer but would go for a S2L Ti version off ebay or Gumtree if was to get again - they usually ahve been bought by more money than sense so will have been used little.
3) How good are they? If commuting less than 4 miles and using pubic transport Brompton great(EDIT the best). Tiny fold size. bombproof design. Can clang folded like an old gate. Ride wobbly to start but get used to. i loved whizzing through the streets across the west end on mine. Ultra short stubby bar ends good on narrow bars. No better folder under 4 miles. if want convenience of folder for longer rides look else where (Airnimal)
4) Possible to have disc brakes? No point.

Oh and you can up the gearing with a bigger front ring - recommended.

Andy,

Do you mean it's not comfortable after 4 miles or something else?

Are they all in same size?

I don't like the look of Airnimal to be honest.

Whats your intended use Chewy? Not uncomfortable, just a compromise on small wheels vs distance. Dont get me wrong - truely great bikes IMO.

Taller riders need the extended seat post.

Andy,

The intended use is just around the city centre in the Toon.

Airnimal just does not do it for me.

🙂
