Got a freak from folding pedal. It’s pretty new, bearing is smooth, threads are greased
Is this just the nature of the design ie having all the load on just the one besring to allow it to fold? Or am I missing something?

Yep, mine's always creaked. It's better one way up than the other

I've had that a few times. I did call into the Brompton shop once and asked about it and the mechanic took the pedal body off, greased the bolts and tightened it all back up. It stopped creaking for a few months then started again.

Thanks aP - is that taking the actual pedal cage off, or just the crank bolt ?

It was the pedal cage and bolts.
Just ridden mine to go get my 3vax, and it wasn't creaking, at least from the pedals...
