Hi all,
Bummer of a day, over the bars, much pain and a trip to A&E.
Results wrist fractured in 4 places ๐
So anyone got any previous with this and what's the average healing time?
I see the specialist on Thursday, but curious.
Cheers
Only a fracture, bet you're glad that you've not broken it. ๐
Same difference really isn't it, it's not right!
umm a fracture is a break..
My experience of two broken ankles is do everything they tell you, don't put weight on etcetc. And do the physio religously.
6-8 weeks is normal time but depends on a few other factors, if it's broken in 4 places then possibly more.
Guy I don't think Zuluz was serious it's an old joke. ๐
Ahhh I see..

Yeah I get that now, just like a bear with a sore arse!
Had several things coming up that are now off, totally pissed with myself such a silly off
Busted both mine at the same time after a climbing accident. Having two hands in plaster is a real pain in the arse.
Left one healed in the cast and was in for roughly 6 weeks, right one needed quite a lot of surgery and thus was in a few weeks longer.
Both have healed fine, I'm stronger now in both, although with a little less flexibility in the right.
Used gentle climbing as a way to increase strength and the consultants were amazed at the speed of the results.
So take it easy for a while, but do the physio and train it went told to.
Did my wrist a few years ago,Was painful as hell for a while. As others have said do exactly as they tell you and wait until its fully healed until you ride again.
Couple of weeks to settle down and start sticking together properly and aroun 6 wks is before its quite strong. Really depends how the breaks, sorry fractures, are aligned and how the blood flow is disturbed.
cheers all, intend to do exactly as told, dont fancy breaking/fracturing ๐ it again due to messing about or jumping back on the bike too soon, was just after a ball park figure really.
I've broken both mine (though not at the same time thankfully). 6 - 8 weeks seems the average.
6-8 weeks in plaster and then the recovery/rehab time. I was told NO offroad MTB for 12 weeks (so 4 after cast was off) but gentle stuff was "ok" if i had to ride.
As always depends on the injury, severity and your personal healing speed.
++1 to follow advice you are given and keep it moving as much as you can.
All the best with it

Yep I rode for 3 months before my fractured wrist (in 4 places) was diagnosed, It had started to fuse off whack but with enough movement to not require a medical break and re-set, I strapped it up and carried on regardless.
I broke mine badly a couple of years ago.
Luckily ๐ for me it required plates and screws, and but no cast - which was quite a surprise when I took off the bandages after a couple of days just to find a plastic splint...
Very painful to start with, but on advice of a Doctor friend just used it as much as I could - plus lots of physio (I had private medical thru work). I rode my motorcycle after 4 weeks and was back on my MTB after 5 weeks.
Even now I've actually more movement in the one I broke than the other one.

no chance rode home with it limp at my side, couldnt even grip the bars properly and ended up walking as the shocks fromt he trail where making it worse.
just see what the specialist has to say.
Broke mine at the beginning of July in the Alps, only just back on the bike, had a plate fitted so no plaster cast, just a velcro up brace thing.
Probably have about 60% movement back at the moment, like everyone says, each case is different but definitely follow the advice given and do the physio.

Indeed the same as I did after it happened, Casualty said it was a sprain and nothing to worry about, 3 months later I decided things were still not quite right, that's when they decided to Xray.
:mong:
i snapped my radius and dislocated my wrist about 13 weeks ago, and i had K-wires putin, was in cast for 6 weeks, i'v been back on the road bike for 4 weeks and im going to get back on my moutain bike as soon as my wheels are realigned,
get well soon vibes, dont rush back and make sure your 100% or you'll do more damage
You don't mention what bones in your wrist you've broken... I presume you have been lucky enough NOT to have broken your scaphoid, they would have said. Thats 3 months+ in a cast. 18 months later I still have issues, after an mri arthogram it appears it's healed 'humped' and I've got a 50% ligament tear which is why it feels weak/painful.
Fingers crossed for you it's the other bones!

tbh the doctor didnt say, rushed of his feet and not really bothered, but hey... looking at the x-ray however i had 3 fractures on the little finger side and on the thumb side it looks like it has shifted out of line like a step, massive swelling there...have it in plaster at present but only on the top for some reason...is that normal, make it easier for the consultation on thursday?
They tend to do a plaster cast first, let the swelling go down, re xray and then a fibercast. Your scaphoid is a little peanut sized bone at the base of your thumb, mainly broken by landing on an outstretched & bent back hand. If you've got damage little finger side you might be ok? I didn't break any other bones and actually thought I'd got a sprain, until 3 weeks later it was getting worse.
Sorry to sound like a miserable fart but not all bones are sorted in 4-6 weeks, as I found out!
I'm sure you'll be fine, just do what the doc says gives you the best chances of a full recovery. Just remember in 10 years time you'll never remember those extra 2 weeks you rode your bike before the doc said you were ready, but your wrist might still be hurting....
