My left shifter has given up the ghost. What seems to be happening is that when you shift up the cable nipple comes out of its little plastic holder as if it is broken or worn [despite being 6mths old]. Anybody had this happen and what can you do about it, preferably not buying another?
You sure its not a partly seized front mech? Normally there is enough tension from the mech to stop the cable nipple moving.
or a sticky cable in it's crudged up outer
No, it's not the mech or the outer, both seem to be moving freely. I took the lid off as far as I dare without springs flying everywhere and the little plastic bit where the nipple fits looks worn. Of course I can't remember what it looked like before! When I reset the nipple in its holder it works for one change and then goes all floppy with neither lever giving any clicks.
pics might help if you can.
I had one go like that, tbh after a quick dismantle and I couldn't see how/why, I just bought another...
Take it to your LBS and they should be able to send it back to Madison. Shimano offer a 3 year warranty on their shifters (high end at least). I had a 2 year old 105 road shifter fixed free of charge for a customer this summer.
