[Closed] Broken link, still got home - lucky?

Noticed a clicking on climbs half way round a ride yesterday and assumed it was a sticky link, but got home to find one half of a 'speed link' had snapped. Both ends were still there so the pins were still in place.

I've had broken chains in the past, but never had this before and I'm amazed I got home as I'd had at least an hour of riding and a fair few hard climbs since I noticed the first clicking. I assume I was just lucky, although I carry a spare so could have repaired it if it had have gone.
