My MX comp Eta's are lovely forks, but the Eta's packed up. The knob now turns all the way around, and the forks do not hold in like they used to.. is this something that is user serviceable? Or is it back to Windwave for a new ETA? Anyone got any experience of this?

Cheers

iirc, the knob slots onto a thingy..but the older style knobs were only plastic, so chances are it's worn and doesn't turn the thingy anymore, whip the knob of and try turning the thingy with i think just a allen key...if it works then the knob is worn.

Nice shiney ones are available from BETD iirc.

I had this on mine. If its not the knob, it'll almost certainly be what I had.

Unscrew the top of the eta side spring, then compress the spring to expose the rod down the middle. Near the top is a little slot, in which a little grubscrew should be. This is what stops the lever rotating all the way and does the eta business. Whats prob happened is that the grubscrew has wound in, allowing the fork to rotate all the way (and not just in the slot) and not engage the ETA. All you need to do is wind out the grubscrew (about 2mm allen I think) and reassemble. Its pretty easy really. You may have drain the oil from below first - I can't remember, but it'll become apparent!

I'll see if I can dig out the original email from Marz I got and post it up here.

here it is.....

the eta has an internal stop, this is the slot towards the top of the cartridge rod. Directly opposite the slot is a hole with a grub screw in it. Rotate the ETA lever so that the grub screw lines up with the hole, use an allen key and turn the grub screw clockwise - this is the stop pin in the slot so be careful how much you wind the pin through.

It sounds complicated but once you have a look at it it really is quite self explanatory?

IIRC they can stop working if air gets into the wrong place, ok I forget the technicalities, but try turning them upside down for a night was the solution.

Second topangarider - I had exactly the same issue and it was just the grub screw that needed adjusting. Ten minute job.
