[#2670814]

So I seem to have broken my left hand 105 (5600) shifter. I've had a search and it appears to be quite a common failure when set up on a double chainset. There is tension in the cable and both levers just swing freely. Is it likely to be repairable or am I going to have to fork out for a new shifter?

Return it to the place of purchase and ask them to contact Madison warranty department.

Thanks, am I likely to get a replacement if the bike is over 18 months old?

Not fixable.

If you set it up with a double, make sure that the two rings are set up as outer and middle, NOT middle and granny. Otherwise it is very likely to break.

I was told recently that 5600 couldn't run a triple now I'm intrigued as I'd like a triple but not if I have to swap shifter, mine say st5600 on them

I did have mine setup on the granny and middle on a double, which is as it came from the bike shop. I never really liked the whole triple onto a double thing so I think I'll order that ultegra shifter (thanks Houns). I just wanted to avoid paying hundreds for new shifters.

If I get a replacement on warranty it will be a bonus.

The 5600 was originally double or triple compatible, you just use a double or triple front mech. There were issues with these levers so there was a revision to the lever to make them specific. These levers are designated 5601 for double and 5603 for triple.

Warranty on 105 is definitely 2 years.

You can still use the triple one on a double though. Spacing is the same.

The one I have is on a double but I'd like to go to a triple. Cheers
