You do not say whether the trails in the forest are public rights of way or not. If they are permissive trails then the landowner can do as they please unfortunately. Looking at what the RSPB have in mind I would be inclined to suggest that dogs should also be banned given the fragile ecological nature of the area however the dog walking fraternity is braod, vocal and influential.

The trails are public rights of way. Hence the upheaval its caused. Doesn't make a lot of sense if there was no problem with bikes in the past!
