I'm looking to put together a city ride from Horfield, out towards Willsbridge and back along the Avon (then grimness through town back home).

I usually ride out through Snuff Mills and back, but off work today so want a longer ride. Any recommendations for getting from the Snuff Mills area, on to the cycle path, then joining it up with the Avon River Trail near Hanham, and back home. The OS map shows mainly footpaths joining the 2 paths, is there an interesting way to do this?

And is Hanham Wood worth a look (heard about it, but not sure which "wood" this actually is)?

cheers

I'd take the ring road path towards Keynsham at Siston Hill, then drop onto the River Avon Trail where they cross. It's a bit hard to follow in places but you should be able to figure it out.

Hanham Woods (aka Bickley and Hencliff Wood) will be very muddy at the moment, but it has a couple of fun bits in it. Try and stay high rather than dropping down to the river as the path there is a splatterfest until you get to Crews Hole Road.

There's a long-ish descent off a patch of open ground which OS calls The Batch, then you can keep off the main riverside path for a bit further until Conham River Park. Be aware that there have been some local tensions in the past and you'll meet lots of dog walkers.

Hi, thanks Anthony (?)

Excuse my ignorance, by "Ring Road path" do you mean a path along side the ring road, rather than the Bristol to Bath cycle path?

Mmmm, just came across some minutes from a local residents meeting about bikes in Bickley Wood, maybe I'll avoid for now, given the mud as well.

You'll see signs for the Ring Road Path around Mangotsfield Station on the BBRP. It's like a continuation of the Railway Path. Similar width and surface.
