I haven't had any stickman incidents for years, but yesterday I had to clear about 10 logs from Rocky Horror, and there were a few (hoppable) ones on the Ridge trail.
Just a heads up - be aware there may be surprises on these descents, and if you do see obstructions, please clear them. It takes a few seconds, and hopefully will crush the spirit of Stickman.
I've had a few clearing sessions in the last couple of months, so he's still been about.
He (they) have been active for a few months now, IMO it's not the old wirey chap doing it any more as there have been some pretty sizeable logs placed over the trail which would he couldn't do even if he is still alive, I reckon it's two or three people working together, boy are they gonna be pissed when the official trail is built.
One's been out round Bath as well! Logs were placed in the bottom of bomb holes...
Is there a humane method to trap Stickmen and release them far away from civilisation where they won't get all angry about mountain bikers enjoying the countryside as well?
I always thought covering logs near trails in really stick jam, so that when Stickman tries to move the logs, he gets stuck, and then carried away by the ants.
I'm not sure how realistic an idea it is though.
It definitely seems to have got worse recently. I'm with Mike though- I don't think the old guy who lives up at the gate house, certainly not on his own.
Rocky Horror seems to have been a particular focus of the Stickman recently - logs, rocks and the jump at the top taken down. He/they seemed busy a couple of months ago, less so now?
I had to clear quite a few logs and branches in Leigh Woods on Friday - don't know the name of the trail but it comes out near the picnic bench.
The ironby is that Leigh Woods is almost devoid of mtbers at the moment - everyone is over at Ashton Court, trying out the new trails.
On Rocky Horror, I had to remove a lot of trees, branches, etc, and then some really huge rocks, that did not add to the challenge, they just obscured the line. It was all clear yesterday afternoon, but who knows what it's like again now.
bloody busy bodies.
Which trail is rocky horror?
I have to admit to blocking off the straight lines on the knicker trail, as people were riding around the roots/rocks and knackering the proper line and pushing shit/rocks/boulders onto the main track.
Rocky Horror is the one to the left of the Ho Chi Min, where you bomb down a sort of gully, then left at the bottom onto a really rocky descent (hence the name), followed by a short uphill, and finishing with a steep dusty descent to the towpath, an arch or two towards bristol from the bottom of the picnic bench.
There aren't really alternative lines until you get to the final steep descent, so this isn't the work of a well meaning mtber.
RH starts to the right of the start of the rim trail/don't look down, at the end of the teacup trail. Down through some rocks, kink right and up around the back wall of the quarry, then steep down again.
Just got back from a cheeky lunch-time lap of Rocky Horror then Knicker trail and Picnic Bench. All clear and lovely. Some of the larger rocks on Rocky Horror seem have moved but I'm not about to start complaining about a trail being too bumpy.
I think I know which one you mean, odd trail for a walker to use.
Same thing at the top of happy camper a few weeks ago. Take care people. Some quite big stuff, certainly not the work of a frail pensioner. Now if we could only get them use their obvious wood moving talents to reinstate that diagonal tree to muddy berm/wall jump lower down on left fork, that would be amazing!
a friend and myself done picnic bench on sunday as our last down and it was clear enough.we also had a look at the hole in the wall? that comes out on the otherside to picnic bench.its got a better run out of the wall instead of the tight righthander it used to have.has it been like this long? it now goes round a tree at the bottom.not sure what this trail is called?
That's the bottom of Knicker trail, and talking the new line at the end is just plain cheating! But its a lot easier than before when your bars are greater than 630mm wide. ๐
i never did master the turn at the bottom but was disappointed to see it changed.how did the name come about?
that reminds me the bottom of the knicker trail needs fixing, as it certainly wasn't broken before.
