im off to Bristol to see some friends over Christmas and fancy taking my bike as Ive read there's a few good places to ride but the people im staying with are not the outdoor type, can anybody point me in the right direction and are there any good LBS worth popping into?
For maximum convenience go to Aston court and leigh woods and follow some bikers around the new trails.
In terms of trails Ashton court would be what your looking for, easy to get to, signs to guide you around, not too muddy and to be fair not a bad little ride if you've got a few hours spare. As for bike shops, In my opinion I don't know of any worth visiting in Bristol city itself, however bad ass bikes is 20 mins outside Bristol, just off the a38, (see website for postcode) and that's definitely worth a trip out, atmosphere is very welcoming, the lads in the shop always up for a laugh and there's normally some nice bikes and kit knocking around, if that hasn't sold you its also right below the Mendips so take your bike, pretty sure they had some trail maps last time i was there? but if not the rule i've always lived by up there if you head downhill 9 times out of 10 you end up at a road normally with a pub nearby. One other bit of advice to follow, which some fellow Bristolians might agree with, stay out of asda bedminster after dark.
hope this helps.
What Buzz said.
Maybe include 50 Acre Wood across the road from AC if you wanna enjoy a shi7 - fest bit of fun. Although that might not be the principled option as it churns up the trail and undoes Mr Agreeables great trail maintenance.
Agree with stev0 - there is no better bike shop than BAB's situated at the bottom of Burrington in the Bristol / North Somerset area in my opinion. They will be shut between the 25th and 28th, but the car park just down the road will be a good start-off for a blat round the Mendips.
Bad Ass Bikes ? that will be the shop that didn`t know anything about steel hardtail frames apart from trying to sell me a Kona because it was the only one he knew of and said "you know it will be a sweet ride" What does that mean in English?
@broken ribs

Bike on the triangle is OK. Mud dock is best avoided IMO.
