[#2308086]

I'm just back on a bike after a couple of years messing with guitars. Got a 2010 Kona Cinder Cone to get me started again and I'm really happy with it.

Went my first snow ride the other day and loved it, really excited about returning to the trails again next year and getting my fitness back up. 😀

What's everyone else planning for 2011? I'm looking for stuff to do throughout next year, needing some experience!

And also, what are the common upgrades on my bike?

Here's a wee pic.

Merry Christmas!

Well done that man. Welcome back to the land of the pedaling.

And also, what are the common upgrades on my bike?

Every bike i've ever had, wheels have always been the first and best upgrade.

Welcome back 🙂

If that was my bike, I'd be fitting clipless pedals. The rest looks fine though tweaks to the position to suit may be worthwhile - your saddle looks rather low for the frame size so unless you have short legs and long arms/back I'd query the fit (though obviously would have to see you actually on the bike first).

Yeah I'm quite short but I've managed to raise it another inch or two. It's a 17" and I'm 5'6". Saddle looks a bit chunky too.

I'll look into pedals and wheels, cheers guys!

Another classic case of bike shops selling too big a bike? I'm sure it will be fine but really I'd have thought a 15-16" would be much more suitable. It's like they think fully grown people are suddenly going to have a mid life growth spurt. Or every bike shop is involved in a conspiracy to sell the wrong size bikes, thus increasing sales of bikes when people realize they're too big...

I'm pretty comfortable with the fit, probably not perfect but it'll do.

I actually bought (stupidly I admit, it was cheap) an 18" Caldera which was really too big, sold it before getting this. Lesson learned lol.

The bike looks fine. It might be a 'bit' big, but will do you OK, no doubt.
The only thing I'd look to change would be some different pedals. Then just get out and ride the thing. You'll soon realise if there are bits on it that might need replacing in due course.

When you say you are looking for stuff to do throughout 2011, do you mean races, or weekends away or.....? Do you have riding mates or will it be mainly you out and about? Where are you based?

Based just outside Glasgow bud, Lanarkshire. And yeah weekends away and other places closer to home. I'll keep an eye out for events and organised rides and such. Interested in meeting other riders around the area.

Was gonna suggest the Bontrager 24:12 for an event with a great atmosphere if there's a group of you. But Glasgow - Plymouth!! That's quite a trek!!

Plenty of riding up your way!
I'm not quite so fortunate, stuck over in the east of England nr Peterborough.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned getting a £200 dropper seatpost and full Sram X0 groupset yet.

Just ride the bike and when things break get new bits. Cool looking Cindercone, Konas looked a bit ropey for a few years but the new ones seem to be back on the ball.

Remember - girls love skids.

brad - a load of us from Glasgow Mountain Bike club are on here

http://www.gmbc.org.uk/

website is very out of date, but we ride Tue and Wed nights from Milngavie, around Mudgock and surrounds - many miles of lovely singltetrack. Also local rides on Sunday mornings and various weekends away. It's only a 30 min drive over there from EK, where I stay. Drop me a line if interested !

Cheers

Iain
