Anyway is SS not niche enough for you now?
35lb fat bikes are where it's at for a Stanmer House burger and a pint outings now.
They make you put SS's round the back with the FS bikes ๐
Anyway its fat bikes like yours that are ruining the woods for everyone
darkcyan - Membern.b. Paceman - you seem to have side stepped the tough guy challenge somehow?
I seem to remember lapping you about 4hrs in last year... that's my challenge to beat ๐
...although I suspect that riding in the fat bike category for 6hrs will add enough "tough guy" for me.
TimP... ๐ ๐ ๐
That old chap was seriously angry about mountain bikers in Stanmer, what was it a 5minute rant??
More secret training too!!
SS v Fatbike - location Stanmer Park outside the Tea Rooms.
There can only be one winner!
Who will triumph in this low tech shoot out......
Still with me?
If my legs after 3 hours riding on Sunday are anything to go by you're already the winner...
I'm a maybe for 9am Sunday at the tea rooms.
Also will probably be riding from the upper lodges at about 18:45 tomorrow if you're not doing the BMTB awayday to Tilgate?
I do like the tag, whoever did that. Should be 'ripped lycra' though ๐
Was riding in there last night, very fast but with some spiky old climbs. Will hurt.
wwaswas: me and nathan at the tearoom at 7.00 pm if you are up for it.
Assuming I get the green light from the Doc tomorrow afternoon. Should be ok though ๐
Meeting some others at the upper lodges at 6:45 so if we do tea and cake we could be there for 7. Darkcyan can you email me a mobile number (address in profile) in case there's a problem and I'll send you mine. I'll check they're happy for a slightly larger group too.
Nathan -fingers crossed for you!
Darkcyan & Wwaswas, I'm good for this evening, see you then (and go easy on me!) 8)
If welcome, I may join you lot tonight...???
Stamner tea rooms at 1900??
DrP
Dr P,
We're heading off from Stanmer Tea Rooms at 18:40 now, meeting Wwaswas and a few others at the Upper Lodges at 18:45. Hope to see you later,
Paceman
DrP - not sure of your plans but I'm riding over from mine leaving at 18:00 if you want a bit of gentle XC/opportunity to watching me wheeze my way up a hill before the Stanmer singletrack? If you're driving don't park near the upper lodges - they close the car park - try and park in the uni sports hall car park and ride across.
Glad to hear you're cleared to ride Nathan!
Should be 7 in total, I think.
The Velo Cafe ride is over at Stanmer this evening so we might see them too.
Wwaswas, good advice about the car park next to the Upper Lodges, I've been caught in there before when they lock up at 7pm.
See you later, we'll be riding up Tea & Cake to meet you at 6:45,
Paceman
or the road in my case - not a good ss warm up ๐
darkcyan - Memberor the road in my case - not a good ss warm up.
Me too I suspect after only a handful of rides in the last two months. Time to dig deep.
Stay on the left hand side of the road Strava will record it as a tea and cake climb anyway I suspect ๐
BTW... the other top car park (the middle one off Coldean Lane) does not shut at all.
Won't get caught after dark in that one.
Wwaswas... What time are you leaving yours?
Is there parking there?
DrP
leaving mine at 18:00 - I'm sure we can sort something out on parking.
Yeah, just saw that... I'll meet you there as will drive from mine, leaving at about 6 as well!
DrP
ok - see you there.
Well that was fun ๐ can't feel my thigh muscles now but that's a small price to pay
You want me to come over and feel them? Again?
Damn, if only I'd seen this last night.
Darkcyan put in an impressive sprint going back into Brighton according to Strava.

It's been pointed out to him that he should really turn off Strava before driving home... ๐
I hear you met Ben who couldn't remember who I was on your travels!
That mind wipe is a protective thing that a lot of people who meet you do ๐
The no shirt look he was sporting seemed like a recipe for losing a lot of skin on an off.
There seemed to be someone that knew someone at the beginning or end of every bit of singletrack last night.
Great ride - nice to have yet another fall onto my ribs (second this month!).
My wife's getting annoyed at my winging now....
Might stick to the Cx bike for a bit..
DrP
It was quite spectacular, if that's any comfort. I got my worst falling off a bike injury (well other than the broken hip) coming off a cx bike on the sdw at walking pace. It seems to just be pot luck when these things happen ๐
Paceman will be along later to offer some sympathy (although you have mine too).
Was a great ride - pace was bloody quick on the singletrack too ๐
I will erect TimP's TeePee this weekend and see how big it is and how easy to put up and report back in...
wwaswas - then I take my top off, I look like a ruddy street fighter! Covered in grazes and bruises!
Regardless, thanks for showing me around ๐
(My penultimate crash was at walking pace coming through a gate, so it happens at any time!)
DrP
Get well soon DrP... I feel your pain ๐
eventful ride and some stunning strava times ๐
Nice to meet up.
Is the TimP Teepee up to scratch? If not then I'm happy to sort out a gazebo.
Wwaswas, I think Tim was planning on checking the teepee this week.
Just as well he waited- it's peeing down ๐
Hi guys,
I've tried to get route info off Morvelo but "no not yet" was the response. I guess they're still deliberating whether to return to the old, tried and tested awesomeness of the previous years or shake it up again. I've done it every year bar last and heard last year was totally different and just climbed the whole way. Shame because historically the ST was just perfect. Going up it is wrong and a tad pointless imo.
Also hoping for some good weather. Did it once in the muddiest mud ever and it wasn't easy, still a hoot though
I'll be on a new 650b Alu hardtail on racing ralphs.
good luck with the Ralph's if it's wet ๐
Let us know if you hear anything.
Cheers
They were out on Tuesday testing the route so I guess it'll be finalised in the next day or two.
This is the Singular sponsored climb;
http://www.strava.com/segments/7715040
so must form part of the route.
The fact it's not the cliff from last year (and wasn't a climb in last years route as far as I remember?) makes me hope that the route doesn't include that this time ๐
[edit] just checked: it was part of the 2012 course.
That one's a classic climb from the earlier BigDog / G2 Revolver years... ๐
Tried to set up one of my wheels tubeless earlier after a puncture on Tuesday. I may stick with tubes for now!

I'm thinking of doing the big dog on my meta purely because it's tubeless even though the 29er HT is probably better suited.
