Was planning to update my forks to Boost laterer in the year. But as actual Brexit is looming, should I buy now to avoid the impending financial dooooom?
You'll need the money for the impending doom.
Then worry about wine!
Bad 2016 harvest and the € - nightmare
We'll be reverting to straight steerer again, surely? You know, making things great again like they used to be.
When I were a lad this were all [s]fields[/s] rubble. Bloody Fritz bombed the shit out of everywhere, but we all came together for a knees-up every night and quick shag round the back of the church hall before the next blackout.
Eeee - it we're grand! Not like today with all this multiculturalism and interwebz nonsense. Things were much simpler back then...
Tins of beans and bottled water.
Lots.

You mock. I saw this sort of thing at least once on Twitter.
"We beat them twice! We will beat them again! It wasn't so bad!"
😐
Then worry about wine!
More concerned about the $/£ and forks TBH. 😉
Back to being serious. 🙂
My opinion is cost is likely to go up. At very best stay the same.
If I had the money now I would personally go for the best deal you can get right now.
I really do think the country has a rough time ahead.
At least you will have your forks to enjoy whilst the country streams off to unknown horizons. 🙂
Waste of thinking. The world will end because of Brexit. Them bloody old folk robbing us of our future!
Waste of thinking.
I get accused of that quite a lot. 😕

😆
Valid point!
Then only have the problem of selling on the predecessor fork in the post-Brexit apocalypse. I suppose the spring can be converted into a Mad Max-esque projectile propellant, so will have some value...

If they're Bombers hang on to them - they'll make an excellent close combat weapon after the zombie apocalypse.
I think it depends doesn't it? If you're buying from outside the EU then there willl be no change. If we negotiate a free trade deal with the EU then no change, if we don't have a hard Brexit and drop onto WTO rules then there will be a tariff added to the price. But this could be offset with a more favourable deal with our US friends with better yuan WTO tariffs (doubt we'd get a free trade deal with the us) so you buy from the us instead of the eu. Or we might strike a more favourable deal with India, Singapore, or any other country in the world and you could buy from any of those wherever the best deal is. It's a global market.
I've purchased plenty of things from the US and Canada over the years. Sometimes get stung for additional import charges sometimes I don't, but if the price is right then it's all good.
Purchase now and enjoy before the Doomsday clock strikes midnight and Trump metamorphoses into the anti-christ.
Lol! 😀
Spend your cash now as it won't be worth anything after the apocalypse.
Post Brexit our forks will be imperial, but we'll have a trade deal with Trump to get them from US, and they won't be made by Mexicans.
Well they certainly won't be made of British sourced steel thats for sure.
As for purchases pre Brexshite or post Brexshite.. I'd go now before the £ falls below the value of the Drachma.
All the monies are heading offshore, open a US$ account, buy with impunity.
Enjoy the bounce on your bike whilst the nation bounces into the Job Centers.

Depressingly likely. 🙁

Good point, well made.

So I assume you're not really sure either? 😉

This genuinely worries me. Or the Chinese at the rate he's going.

The irony is I used to have one...

Ha, ha, ha… oh… you really meant that. Scary.
But as actual Brexit is looming, should I buy now to avoid the impending financial dooooom?
If you're comparing now, to say, 12 months time, then I wouldn't worry.
Low pound already priced in, and even if drops a bit further, the worst effect is already in the pricing.
Now, forks that are "current year" right now might actually be cheaper next year, as model updates hit the shelves.
If you're comparing now to our position after we actually leave… who the hell can even guess…
If you're buying from outside the EU then there willl be no change
That's assuming our currency doesn't reduce in value. But it already has. So I imagine forks will go up in price like everything else imported.
The way the £ is heading, buy now for sure.
Just renewed a quote for work - 10% rise in costs because reagents are sourced in USD compared to the price we got in September 🙁 .
Not sure how much further the £ will fall unless we go to WTO
I'm surprised a brexiter hasn't complained your not buying British forks, sadly you can't even get crap Pace ones, but that's actually a blessing 😉
We had a British manufacturer. Did 52% of bikers buy them?
I suppose a Brompton might be good on the trails, gravel trails prraps..
What knobblies for 10" ? And single or three speed?
Of all the things to worry about Brexit, I wouldn't worry about forks too much.
It's still a competitive market at wholesale and retail level - RS / Xfusion / Manatou / Fox they'd all like your money.
The 'markets' are about the future, not now - the £ fell in June, corrected in Nov and has been steady since. After yesterdays vote it rose against the € when the markets opened.
THIS IS NOT SAYING BREXIT IS A GOOD IDEA, it's ****ing stupid - it's just the markets have already reacted to what they think will happen, and trust me, they're being briefed a lot more than the BBC is.
Yesterdays vote wasn't a hard v soft vote - it was a prerequisites v no prerequisites vote. I have to hope that, at some point May will remember the referendum was a close result, and all the promises the leave campaign made have turned out to be lies – at some point she has to make a deal that most people can live with, not just the die hard UKIPers who want to burn the EU at any cost that she hopes to return to being Tory voters in 2020.
Buy whatever takes your fancy, the Trump/Putin apocalypse is imminent!!!
I bought forks in December for just this reason. They aren't going to get cheaper.
We had a British manufacturer. Did 52% of bikers buy them?
No, the Swiss did. 😮
I believe we've had more than one. Anyone else remember Pro Circuit?
I'm sure a brexiteer will be along in a moment to tell you that the falling pound is great news for you and you should thank them.

We have a remoaner who wears his remoan vote on his sleeve... chin up old lad
It is, I am proud to be totally opposite of what you are.
HTHs.
Once we're free of Europe we'll be able to deal with the rest of the world.
Cheap Chinese forks for everyone. Yay!

We were before anyway. Oddly there was a stink about EU dealing with US via TTIP (putting the fear into socialists thinking it's an open door to US companies taking over public services), and we never had a deal with US before and seem to get along okay, but now we're obsessed about getting a trade deal with US, which is going to end up being much like TTIP.
That was a satirical comment deadkenny.

Like the Cheap Chinese uniforms Her Maj's Prison Service have been using for 5 years?
Top marks for nudging my memory about pro circuit forks. I had a set of their chainrings. The forks were a total clone of Manitous iirc?
A post brexit fork if ever there was one, you're forced to rely on the left, as the right simply isn't there for you at all, and things won't take a nose dive just because you are forced to put the brakes on a little...
😆
How very apt.

I believe they were. The company was local-ish in East Anglia, so the race team were quite locally prominent. Lots of anodised kit if memory serves.

I think most of the major social and political issues of our time could be illustrated with some sort of bicycle-fork based analogy...
Ha i have a fair few forks im flogging but enough of the stealth ad
Hahahahahahah im actually more surprised you think your going to have time to consider fitting them let alone riding by the time things get finished up politically your going to have to work every hour god sends just to make ends meet
Therefore dint worry like me you wont be able to afford it
You won't be going mountain biking after Brexit. With our new improved privatised NHS, any injury which can be classified as "resulting from a person(s) putting themselves in situations of unnecessary risk" and will not be eligible for cost free treatment. Instead you will incur spectacularly large charges to ensure that the benevolent corporations can maximise profits for their deserving shareholders.

I work for a west coast US company, owned by a German company. I really have no idea how it's going to turn out.
😕
You haven't got a 120mm Boost fork going Mike?
Ha i have a fair few forks im flogging
Any 26" straight steerer 100mm travel let me know 🙂

"Not that we're panicking or anything. We've somehow lost the £350m we were meant to regain every week..."

I have a set of 2006/7 Fox Vans. Currently set-up at 130mm but can be altered to 100mm. Not ridden since service, but do need new bushes (got the classic Fox 'knock' and oil on one of the stanchions). I was going to keep them for the better half, but I've just never got round to sorting out the bushes. Only issue otherwise is the steerer - 190mm IIRC. Got soft, medium and hard springs too, thinking about it. Let me know if of interest Molgrips.
They're coil? Could do with air really, it's for the XC bike. Coil would be a bit of a mismatch.
