I love the red but have never done the black. Got tomorrow morning free... and am 30 miles away. How do they compare? I'm a southern softie trail centre mincer who is happy on the reds at Afan and Cwm Carn but wouldn't do the downhill run... Is the black at Brechfa a Gnarl too far?

One descent on the black is full of jumps and swoopy berms = much fun for me, the rest of it... hope you like climbing ๐Ÿ™‚

If I did it again I'd want to be on an XC bike and then poop myself on the fun descent. Would probably go for the Red & Blue/Green instead really as I reckon it'd be more fun filled as the black is pretty hard work for a not so great pay off.

If you're ok on the red then you should be able to ride the black. It's got lots of fun bits in, atleast one bit where you'll miss a turn and end up on the green/blue and lots of whcking great berms that give me a bit of vertigo ๐Ÿ™‚

The green/blue combo is also a huge amount of fun, once you get to know the area you can add bits of the black to it.

DO the black, you'll have a giggle, but there will be naff all grip after all this rain though...

There's actually less climbing on the black than on the red. I haven't done the black but did the red last weekend. OH did the black on Monday and said that it's probably not really any more technical, but the black grading might be down to the steepness of some of the climbs.

I might have totally misheard him though. ๐Ÿ˜†

When you have finished the black, schlep back up the fire road from the car park to the little roundabout and cannonball yourself back down the last blue/green singletrack descent - lots of fun!

Thanks chaps. Might give the black a spin. Looks like you could do a loop of both.

The black is pretty straight forward. Can't think of any of it that is gnarly. Climbing is similar to the red but a bit more interesting as less of it is on fire road
