Why do road bike brakeblocks have fins on them?
to guide the wheel in.
Smiffy. Is that the real answer? I don't believe people cannot get a road wheel back in.
On second thoughts, is it to help racers who I can see would want to do it as quick as possible.
Smiffy is correct.
I've often wondered that. Makes sense I guess, I thought they were to make it easier to set your pads when new but didn't get why mtb didn't do the same.
My mate has them upside down ๐
ok, I beleve you. So, second question. I can see small pieces or specs of silver /aluminium?\ enbedded in the brake block surface. Is this normal?
Some pads are more aggressive on aluminium rims than others, you'll find the pads which leave aluminium embedded in them scour the surface of the rim - a bit of a vicious circle really.
Kool-Stop salmon or dual compound pads are generally regarded as being THE pads for aluminium rims, and they don't suffer with aluminium embedding to my knowledge.
