I need to put something in my brakes to keep the pads apart when I am transporting the bike with wheels off.

So what neat solutions do people have ?

I am thinking about small pieces of plywood or doubled up credit cards and elastic bands to hold in place but wonder if there is another neater solution

What make of brake? Most retail packages come with spacers already in place.

Folded up cardboard works for me.

i have the proper shimano spacers that came with my brakes but i hardly use them.
always use folded up cardboard instead.
the plus side of this is that cardboard is easily replaceable

Penny coin with some electric tape wrapped round it to fatten it up.

Thanks, I wondered if people had special secret but folded cardboard is good and that will hold itself in. Never bothered before but had a problem at the weekend.
