[#2141022]

Just changed rotors as the 160 was too small on my Avid Elixirs. I have replaced Ashima Airotors (which are ace btw) with Clarks 180mms off CRC. I have pushed the pistons in and recentred the calipers.
Brake levers feel fine BUT the pistons/pads are not retracting enough to clear the discs and they are rubbing something chronic.

Is it possible that the new discs are thicker than the old or that their is too much oil in the system??

My elixirs are a pain for this. Are the new rotors wider than the old ones?

I had this problem when I replaced pads, couldn't stop them rubbing. So I got the old set of pads and a screwdriver and pushed the pistons in (they were a bit sticky so not going back in purely based on the spring).Plastic lever probably better idea.

Do some googling for avid elixir pad rubbing as I'm sure there were more options than that.

They are marginally thicker yes. Will push pistons and try to realign the calipers also

r_r - have you got the bleed block/pad spreader thingy? you should be able to push the pads back far enough using this rather than resorting to screwdrivers and the like make sure that the pad moves freely in the caliper some don't and this prevents it from moving away from the disc when you release.... I sometimes still get some rubbing which can only be sorted with a quick trip up the hil and back near me to level the pads off a bit.

Yes - got the bleed block that's what i will use to push the pistons in, will align using the new pads i have and then drop the old ones back in when aligned
