is it pretty much normal to get brake squeal in wet weather? ie generally raining directly on the bike not so much mud/wet on the ground?

i just had some new xt brakes, which made a right racket with sintered pads, i switched to organic pads and the improvment is immense....they are silent in the dry completely...and pretty much silent in muddy/wet trail conditions...

but when the rain beats down on them directly they sound like pigs squealling....this does however go after a few sharp pulls on the brake down banks etc and then its back to normal silent until a build up of rain gets on them again...

is this pretty much normal? i can live with that totally as its not constant, just wanted to check to see if you guys get any wet weather squealing!

cheers!

cool yeah it was 10x worse on my hope's they just didnt get rid of the wet squeal until the whole ground/area dried up...

these xt ones tend to just get rid of the water/rain after a few pumps on a bank or when braking is needed properly...

they were brill last night it was wet/muddy on the ride i did and not raining and they were completly silent, then the sleet rain started and it suddenly came....though i know this is pretty normal in rain from past experiences, just wondered how everyone else fair's with it, if at all...

good to know generally in rain they will squeal and its not just suddenly come back and started on mine and got 220323x worse 🙂

My XTs (770's) squeel when wet for a bit.
Organics may not make as much noise, but they'lll prob only last half as long as sintered pads!

It could be pad related as the original Avid pads that came with my brakes squealed a lot less than the Superstar ones I currently have fitted.

My LX with sintered pads were fine on the hill last night. That is until it started raining on the bit back home on road, when they let out a noise like a poked pig?

haha great news! glad its not just me then 🙂 im not to bothered about the pad life as long as they arent running down after 50 miles or something, i actually prefer organic, it feels grippier and more powerful for me....

the noisiest ones ive had are hope sintered and shimano sintered....both organics are much much more quieter in general...

im currently on Superstar organics, at £5 a pop i cant really complain about life span should they die after 300 miles or something through the winter....ill try some proper shimano organic pads next time....

glad to hear its pretty normal though 🙂

funnily enough they actually seem even better in mud/water on the ground...they just dont like clear rain water from the sky 🙂

still role on summer (hopefully) and they should be consistently silent!
