[#1609672]

I just bought some XT disc brakes and im in the process of fitting them.

The frame they are going on is a 15 inch Giant XTC 2010 but im not sure how to determine brake hose length.

Where should i be measuring from and to and how much length should i leave to ensure i can turn the bars freely?

Its a new build so there are no old brakes to measure.

Thanks

Test fitting is the only reliable way I have found of getting proper hose length. Attach the caliper end and fit the hose to the frame then hold the hose to the lever and turn the bars to see how freely they move. And remember - measure twice and cut once!

Is there not an equation? like bike legth plus x inches?

I really don't want to cut it too short.

Nope, the only way to do it properly is to test fit IMO. You could use string as a tester if you are really worried about cutting too short.

And when in doubt, leave it longer, also current one 100mm forks, next bike has 120mm forks...
