I'm looking to change out some brake calipers as the current ones seemed to be leaking.
Never done this before and I bought some hose connectors and olive nuts to put in the ends. I've since read the connectors should have a 'groove in the head shaped part' whereas mine appear to just be flat:
Do I need to go out and buy these different connectors? The calipers are Deore M446 and I want to avoid any leaks so i'm guessing yes, but wanted to check!
Cheers
Providing that the hoses and connections weren't leaking, there's no point in changing them, just undo them, and screw them back into the new caliper. The document you have there is for the easy joint system, which i'm fairly sure is their pre-bled unassembled system.
Thanks, I wondered if I could just use the same ones but thought best to go with the new ones - i'm not 100% its the calipers leaking.
I need to shorten the length of the hoses for a new build, still ok to use the existing ones & connectors? (I don't know if they wear - that might be a silly question !)
Use new ones. For BH-59 hose you will need to use the gold coloured hose insert. For BH-90 hose you will need to use the silver coloured hose insert. The olives are the same whichever hose you have.
@simondbarnes: thanks, its the gold ones I have but without the 'groove' on the head of the connector...
The pic you've linked to is for the easy hose joint system. You won't have that.
Ah right ok. It was from 'dealer manual' for the shifters I have, they are crappy Alivio M4000 shifter/brake lever combo jobbies. Looking to run the deore calipers with them as i'm pretty sure the alivio ones are leaking.
