[#2301377]

I just watched the Hope Tech installation video and when they replaced the bottom bracket they left the black plastic thing holding the two cups together on.

I bought a second hand chainset and this bit wasnt included, does it matter? I just fitted both cups and thought that was fine.

I've never fitted a BB before and I'm worried it does something important.

Does it actually do anything?

Not essential, but it helps prevent dirt and water that accumulates in the BB shell getting to the bearings from the inside.May be a good idea to drill a 3mm drain hole in the shell.

Ah, ok thanks. Think I'm gonna get a Hope BB so I'll leave it on this time.

BTW - if the second hand one is still OK you can get replacement center tubes:

The image says DH but you can get all of the tubes via a webshop/LBS

Depends on your frame. Are there any holes in the bottom bracket where much and water can enter? I'm with coatesy, if it can get in, give it a way out again. I drill my frames.
